Welcome to the Old Portmuthian Club. The OP Club's principal activity is facilitating contacts between former pupils of The Portsmouth Grammar School. The Club also publishes magazines and newsletters, organises social events in Portsmouth and elsewhere, and provides financial support to current and former pupils of PGS via the OP Charity.

The OP Club website has been designed in line with modern Internet technologies (XHTML, CSS, DOM) but your browser does not appear to properly support some of the required features.

Directions and other Information

1) The Thanksgiving Service is to be held at the Church of St Thomas the Martyr, Haymarket - see map attached, box F3. The Church is on the corner of St Mary's Place and Barras Bridge, with the Civic Centre behind it, and opposite Haymarket Metro station (marked 'M' on the map).

2) The time scheduled for the start of the service is 1415. so it would be appreciated if everyone attending could be seated by then.

3) Following the service, you are invited to join the family at the Northern Counties Club, 11 Hood Street- see map attached, box F5. The distance from the Church to the Club is approximately 600 yards.

4) On leaving the Church, cross St Mary's Place at the traffic lights and continue down Northumberland Street, which is open only to pedestrians. Carry on to the end of Northumberland Street (passing en route M&S and later Fenwicks, both on your right).

5) At the end of Northumberland Street, cross over at the lights and into Pilgrim Street. You will pass the Tyneside Cinema on your right and shortly after arrive at Hood Street on your right.

6) Turn into Hood Street and the Northern Counties Club is the first building on your right. The entrance has pillars either side but no sign advertising its existence. Visit www.northerncountiesclub.co.uk for a picture of the outside and more information on the Club.

7) We have the use of the Club until 1800 so, if on the day, your journey is delayed and you are prevented from arriving in time for the service at the Church, please do still come on to the Club.

8) Those needing to go on afterwards to Newcastle Central Station may care to note that there is a taxi rank at the far end of Hood Street or they can take the Metro at Monument station (marked 'M' on the map) and get off at the next stop which is Central Station -see map attached, box E7).
