Welcome to the Old Portmuthian Club. The OP Club's principal activity is facilitating contacts between former pupils of The Portsmouth Grammar School. The Club also publishes magazines and newsletters, organises social events in Portsmouth and elsewhere, and provides financial support to current and former pupils of PGS via the OP Charity.

The OP Club website has been designed in line with modern Internet technologies (XHTML, CSS, DOM) but your browser does not appear to properly support some of the required features.

So that you are not at a disadvantage, you will still see all of the information content but in a less organised form. However, you will have a better browsing experience if you upgrade to a modern browser.

John Armitt lecture

Time:

Location:
David Bawtree Building, The Portsmouth Grammar School

Cost:
Free

John Armitt, CBE FREng FICE, Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, will give a presentation on preparations for the London 2012 Games and reveal the pitfalls of managing Europe's largest ever planning application and London's biggest construction project of recent times. It is one of his only speaking engagements outside London this year.

A graduate of Portsmouth Technical College, who was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from Portsmouth University, John has enjoyed a career which has seen him oversee the building of the Sizewell B nuclear reactor and high speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link as well as holding Chief Executive positions for Costain Construction, Network Rail and Railtrack. He is also a passionate supporter of the theatre, designing sets in his youth for the Questors Theatre in Ealing and paying regular visits to the Old Vic.

John is a staunch believer that the Games of the XXXth Olympiad in London will be a spectacle the like of which will never have been seen in the country before and the evening promises to give us a fascinating and rare insight into how preparations are shaping up. Places are free, but interest should be lodged with Liz at liz.preece@pgs.org.uk in order that sufficient catering arrangements can be made.
